Discover Gordon Ramsay Burger - Chicago

Walking into Gordon Ramsay Burger - Chicago at 2 E Ontario St, Chicago, IL 60611, United States feels less like stepping into a tourist-heavy celebrity restaurant and more like entering a polished neighborhood diner that just happens to be run by one of the most recognizable chefs in the world. I stopped in on a busy Friday night after a conference nearby, expecting a long wait and a rushed experience. Instead, the host managed the crowd smoothly, and within minutes I was seated with a clear view of the open kitchen, which immediately set the tone for transparency and confidence.

The menu keeps things focused, and that restraint works in its favor. Rather than overwhelming diners with endless options, it highlights burgers made with a proprietary beef blend. According to information shared by the restaurant and confirmed in interviews Gordon Ramsay has given to outlets like Food & Wine, the patties are crafted using USDA-inspected beef cuts chosen for fat content and texture. That balance matters. During my visit, I ordered the Hell’s Kitchen Burger, and the first bite delivered exactly what you hope for: a juicy center, crisp exterior, and toppings that complemented instead of competing. The roasted jalapeños brought heat without masking the beef, and the house-made sauce tied everything together in a way that felt deliberate rather than flashy.

One detail that stood out was the cooking process. The staff uses high-heat flat-top grills, allowing the Maillard reaction to do its work. Food science research published by the Journal of Culinary Science & Technology explains how this browning process enhances flavor and aroma, and you can taste that science at play here. Watching the cooks press, flip, and rest the patties with precision gave me confidence that consistency isn’t accidental-it’s trained.

Sides deserve their own mention. The truffle fries arrived hot, evenly seasoned, and not overly oily, which is harder to achieve than it sounds. I’ve had versions elsewhere that turn soggy halfway through, but these held up until the last bite. A nearby table ordered onion rings, and when I asked about them later, the server shared that they’re battered fresh daily, not pulled from a freezer bag. That kind of detail matters, especially for diners who read reviews closely before choosing a spot.

Speaking of reviews, online feedback across major platforms tends to echo my experience. Many guests praise the friendly service and reliable quality, while a few note that prices are higher than a typical diner. That’s fair. You’re paying for location, ingredients, and the Ramsay name. From my perspective, the value equation still works, especially when you consider the portion sizes and the care put into execution. I’d describe the experience as Worth it for anyone looking to elevate a casual burger night without veering into fine dining territory.

There’s also a sense of authority behind the brand that’s hard to ignore. Gordon Ramsay’s restaurants worldwide have earned multiple Michelin stars, and while this Chicago location isn’t chasing that level of formality, it benefits from the systems and standards developed across his global operations. Training programs, supplier vetting, and recipe testing are all part of that ecosystem, according to public statements from the Gordon Ramsay Restaurants group.

No place is perfect. During peak hours, the noise level can climb, and if you’re seeking a quiet, intimate dinner, this might not be your ideal setting. Still, for travelers, locals, and conference-goers alike, the combination of a central location, a focused menu, and a proven process makes it a reliable choice. My own visit ended with a simple thought I don’t always have after dining out downtown: I’d happily come back, and I’d order the same burger again, which is about as strong an endorsement as any casual diner can give.

  • Greetings my Foodzies, the other day we ventured into the heart of the city. We went to have lunch at Gordon Ramsay‘s burger restaurant 5 E Ontario St. The atmosphere was bustling. The restaurant is an open concept so it was kind of loud. They had booth seating, table seating and bar seating. The table seating, seats were extremely comfortable. We were seated right away, our server Tessa was very nice and knowledgeable. We tried several items off of the menu. We ordered the Chicago style hotdog, it was served on a poppyseed bun, a nice all beef hotdog and to “old school lingo. They ran it through the garden. It had mustard, of course, glowing, green relish, sliced tomatoes, (which always confuse me because you’re not allowed to have ketchup on a hotdog, but you’ll put tomatoes on it.) port peppers and a pickle spear. I found the bun to be a little hard with the rest of the hotdog was very good. Everything is à la carte so no fries came with the hotdog or the burgers. We did, however, order sweet potato fries, which were fresh, and crunchy. We dipped those in the aïoli sauce that came with the brunch burger, and that just took it to a new level. We then tried the brunch burger, which consisted of american cheese, brown sugar bacon, caramelized onions, hashbrown patty, fried egg and spicy aioli. It made for a very tasty bite; my only complaint is that the fried egg did not come with a runny yolk. One of my favorite concepts of a brunch burger is biting into the burger and having the yolk run out so you could use it for dipping when you get to the end. We then tried the Idiot burger which had braised short rib, gruyère, cheddar, roasted mushrooms, spicy tomato chutney. (I know you all have a comment about this. But let’s refrain.) we found this to be a very tasty burger the way that everything came together; the short rib was tender and juicy, and the weight that the cheese and the spicy tomato chutney all blended together it was awesome. One of the highlights of our meal was the Oreo milkshake with a crème brûlée topping. The milkshake was nice and creamy had a great flavor of Oreo and the best part of the milkshake was the crème brûlée that was sprinkled on the top. I give this restaurant 5 stars not only because it’s a Gordon Ramsay restaurant, but the atmosphere the food and the service were phenomenal. Give it a try and let me know what you think. Ciao ciao for now.

  • Amazing food; we found out about this place first in South Korea and loved it. And then we went to this location and it lived up to expectations! Food and burgers are excellent, and the truffle fries and onion rings are delicious as well. We always have a great experience here because the food is top notch! This time, the food took a while to come out, but it was still great and worth it.

  • Easy to find, great atmosphere. The food was amazing. But the waitress was the best of all! She was patient and kind enough to answer our questions. I told her we were celebrating my husbands birthday. She recomended a dessert and when she served it, she brought it out with a candle. It may be small and perhaps insignificant to someone else, but the fact she went out of her way so we could sing happy birthday to my husband who has always wanted to come to Chicago and fell in love with it, was just amazing. I'm grateful! So more than the food being amazing, the waitress was extraordinary!

  • Obviously we had very high hopes going into a restaurant with Gordon Ramsay’s name on it. We got the Brunch Burger and the Hell’s Kitchen burger, with the braised beef nachos. The portion size seemed small at first, but the nachos were incredibly filling - the chips were crispy, the beef was extremely tender, and the avocado mousse was a great flavour and texture pairing. The burgers were delicious, cooked beautifully and bursting with flavour. We were full for HOURS. Some things could have been better though. For one, the burgers don’t come with any sort of sides - given that a burger hovers around $20USD, you’d expect something on the side, or even a little garnish. The barren plate we got the burger on felt a little underwhelming. Also, I think their bacon is too crumbly and sweet personally. Other than that though, everything was excellent. The service was very friendly and quick too - even paying was very easy, you just scan a QR code and you can pay/split the bill without even calling your server.

  • I am a huge fan of Gordon Ramsay, but also a discriminating burger afficionado. I finally got to have lunch at this place and was truly amazed. The "blue cheese" burger was about the best I've ever had! The flavor of the meat was just excellent. Perfectly seasoned. Bun and toppings were fresh and tasty. To compare, I had a Kuma's Corner burger a few days prior and it seemed bland by comparison to the Ramsay burger. Without a doubt I'll be back!

  • Our meal was delicious, we had the Forest burger, the Brunch burger and truffle fries. For dessert we had the skillet cookie and brownie sundae. The Brunch burger was amazing and the crookie skillet was phenomenal. We'll definitely visit again. Our server was very friendly and made sure everything went well. The price was reasonable as well.

  • Food was great but wanted to highlight the customer service (28 November, dinner). Our hostess was super friendly. But I was also in the washroom and a soap dispenser wasn’t working. I just switched to another sink but a team member who was in there and had just used the sink I moved to (brown hair, with facial hair and a friendly smile) took a moment to fiddle with the broken soap dispenser and get it working. Very impressive as I am sure at other restaurants, the staff member would have just walked on by. And there were two entrances - a rotating door which didn’t let in a blast of cold air when used, and a regular door that let in a lot of cold air when opened. A couple people exited out the latter, making myself and my family uncomfortable due to the cold (though we didn’t say anything). A security staff member seated nearby - of his own initiative - grabbed a spare chair and blocked the door so no one could use it. Super considerate. I was very impressed by not only the food, but the quality, professionalism, and consideration showed by the staff.
